Teachers have been warned of salary stoppage if they do not embrace the government’s community-based learning programme.
While speaking in Kilifi on August 21st, Chief Administrative Secretary for Education Zachary Kinuthia said tutors who will skip classes or fail to register for community-based learning will miss their salaries.
The CAS said such teachers will be considered to have absconded their duties.
“A teacher or anyone else who interferes with the programme will be arrested and prosecuted,” CAS warned.
However, the CAS explained that community-based learning will not replace the main curriculum but it set to keep learners busy during the time of the Covid-19 pandemic.
So far, the Ministry has registered 224,494 teachers which represent 67% of the total tutors in the country for readiness of the community-based learning programme.
However, the learners are expected to study under the trees and community social halls with strict adherence to the Covid-19 protocols to avert the spread of the novel coronavirus.
School heads are expected to be in the institution to monitor and supervise the programme at least once a week. The learners however should not be more than 15 per lesson.
Over a week ago, the Teachers Service Commission through its Chief Executive Officer Dr Nancy Macharia released a list of the guidelines for the programme.
