Police in Rongo town on Sunday night arrested four students after they were accused of sneaking into a girl’s school dormitory at night.

Confirming the incident Rongo OCPD Joel Kiptum said police acted swiftly and arrested four students while 16 others managed to escape.

“School authorities informed us that students travelled for over 15kms to Tuk Jowi Girls to romp with the girls. They were later arrested and brought to the station by the school security at dawn when they returned,” he said.

The four boys from Kanyawanga High School students were among 20 others who allegedly sneaked into a girl’s dormitory at midnight prompting the school authorities to raise an alarm.

School authorities also recovered two mobile phones suspected to have been used by the students to communicate with the girls.

Kiptum said Tuk Jowi girl’s Principal called his Kanyawanga counterpart who conducted an inspection and found the boys missing before laying an ambush.

The OCPD said the students were notorious for visiting the girls at night despite the long distance between the two schools.

They were later released on free bond as examinations were underway and instructed to report to the station once the examinations are completed to appear in court.

“We released the four on a free bond but will require them report back to the station on Friday after completion of their exams for further action,” Mr Kiptum said.

He called on School authorities to remain vigilant during the examination period and take care of the students noting that they could be attacked from by the irate local community.

“They school (authorities) must be vigilant in securing the school environment because students may end up being attacked by locals who may mistake them for criminals,” he said.

The OCPD asked students to concentrate on their studies and avoid spending time over unnecessary and misplaced priorities that may affect their performance.

“It is saddening that at this crucial time when they are sitting for examination, some still find time to romp with girls, when they ought to focusing on studies,” said Kiptum.

He said it was such misplaced priority that leads to poor results and I’m urged other students to remain focused. The school declined to comment on the issue.
