St Paul’s children home benefit from Chef Philip cooking training

St Paul’s Children Home in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County has benefited from free cooking training by Chef Philip Heka Initiative “Teach Children How to Fish.”

The chef who is among most sought after chefs in hotel industry had launched the initiative to train children in  homes on how to make some income from cooking and producing food for consumption, the children were trained how to cook and bake beef burgers,pizzas, Swiss rolls, cakes,mandazi  and other snacks.

Philip who is based in Watamu Coast said is educating the young generation to embrace cooking and practice it professionally, he said he has traveled around the world cooking in big hotels.

Apart from the training the children homes receive a free oven to help them in bread baking and other services. This is the third children home the chef has visited and will hold cooking a competition on December 2019, those who benefited from the training will be required to participate.

Philip noted that young boys lack skills due to lack of mentors, he said next year he will teach the children on basic mechanic. Other chefs who participated are Chef Jason and Chef Collins.

Wadada Pamoja Organization Director Maureen Mbote who partnered with the Chef said they have been holding charity events to help the less fortunate in the country; their aim is also to empower woman and children to depend on themselves. Wadada Pamoja is an organization for women in entertainment industry.

Friends of Street Families Foundation also participated in the training, their founder Fredrick Omondi said they visit homes last Saturdays of every month. Omondi who has been in the streets before said they clean the homes, interact with kids and provide food.

The children home founder and direct Margret Mbote said she has been supporting the children for twenty years now, some of the children were rescued after dumped by their mothers.

She thanked the supporters and promised to ensure that the idea is implemented in the home to generate income besides generating food for children. She noted that the initiative is good in giving skills to the children.
