Embu Students strike to avoid sitting for mocks exam

Property of unknown value was destroyed at St Stephen Kavutiri High School Embu County after about 70 students went on rampage and hurled stones at window panes, then left the school on Tuesday night.

Embu North Deputy County Commissioner Jeremiah Tumo said students  went on strike to avoid sitting for mock exams, which were scheduled to start yesterday.

Tumo said the students dashed out of school screaming but police officers were able to contain and force them back to school.

He said they are investigating the incident. Ministry of Education officials later held a consultation meeting with the school administration to address the issue.

Tumo advised school administrations to frequently meet with students so that they know the issues affecting them.

The striking students were in form three and form four. Some form one and form two students claimed the senior students planned the strike a week ago but it failed to take place on Saturday night due to some inconveniences.
