A 26 year old refugee from Somalia who was expecting to fly to Canada on a scholarship has taken his life in IFO  refugee camp, after scoring unsatisfactory grade in 2018 KCSE examination.

Dadaab born Mohamed Ahmed’s body was found hanging in the house he lived alone after his parents voluntarily returned Somalia to start a new life.

Neighbours said that he had developed depression after scoring a mean grade D+ which according to him had few prospects to grow.

According to the Dadaab refugee rule book refugee students who obtain B+ and above in KCSE are assisted to pursue further education abroad. A Dadaab resident, Abdi Kulo, noted as a result even many Kenyan Somalis have posed as refugees to earn the scholarships.

Gedi Secondary school principal, Elias Ndonga, where the deceased had repeated, said it was unfortunate for the young promising boy to take his life before he would realize his dreams.
