The high consumption rate of drugs among school children has caused great concern to education stakeholders in Kilifi.

Speaking from Kilifi town recently, Kilifi North sub county Director of Education Mr. Heron Karani attributed indiscipline cases among students to drug abuse.

He urged parents, Church and Mosque leaders in the county to cooperate fully by ensuring that they instill discipline in their children as they grow up.

The Director asked all education stakeholders in the county to work as a team and brainstorm to find ways to fight the vice.

He disclosed that the move would enable school children to maintain high standards of discipline in learning institutions hence improve both academic standards and national examinations performance in the county.

Mr. Karani noted that discipline was the only key factor towards success in their children’s final national examinations.

He further urged parents to play their role by monitoring the movements of their school children so as to know exactly what they are going astray.

“Failure to monitor our children will make them behave in any manner they want,” said Mr. Karani

He asked parents to ensure that they remain strong in their principles so that they are not controlled by their children who are easily influenced with the peer pressure, evolving technology and modern world trends.
