Professor George Magoha will now take over as Education Cabinet Secretary after taking oath of office at State House, Nairobi on Tuesday.
He was sworn in by Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua in a ceremony witnessed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The surgeon was sworn in together with Mr Wycliffe Ogalo as Commissioner-General of Kenya Prisons.
Prof Magoha takes over from Ms Amina Mohamed who was moved to the Sports ministry after Rashid Achesa was fired by President Uhuru.
Uhuru commended the CS for his appointment, he said is counting on him on the 100 percent transition from primary to secondary schools ,good management of resources and implementation of the new curriculum.
Magoha has previously served as the Chairman of the Kenya National Examinations Council when he was a Vice Chancellor at the University of Nairobi
During his vetting by Parliament Committee on Appointments, he said during his tenure in private and public sector he did not encounter failure, he said he will repeat the same in the ministry of education.
The swearing -in ceremony was attended by interior CS Fred Matiang’i, Chief of Staff and Head of Delivery Nzioka Waita among other senior government officials.
