Principals warned against hiking fees

The Kenya National Parents Association chairman Nicholas Maiyo has cried foul over excessive fees charged by secondary schools heads.
Speaking to Education News recently in Eldoret town, Maiyo said it’s sad that principals are not sticking to the fee guidelines laid down by the Ministry of Education, and even sending away students to collect as little as Sh500.
He added that parents should not be exploited by a few self-centered principals.
The maximum fees payable for boarding schools is Sh53,000 after a Government subsidy of Sh22,244 per child each year.
Maiyo called on parents to be actively involved in the education of their children by ensuring that the learning environment for their children is conducive for the acquisition of quality education.
