Pupils at Kambui School for the Deaf could not hide their joy as the school got a digital sign language studio.

The initiative was made possible by Tangazoletu, a Kenyan leading ICT firm.

The learning digital studio aims at helping the school improve the quality of education offered to the pupils using technology.

It will be a complete new experience in the pupils learning as teachers can make use of PowerPoint presentations, images and even film as teaching tools through the use of projectors.

“This is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives to better live in the community,” said Chris Gathingu, the company Chief Executive Officer.

The company donated laptops, a camera, desktop computers and projectors, which will be used by teachers when preparing lessons. It also refurbished and furnished the studio room.

The Government issued laptops that will be used in the studio.

“Although the sign language studios are recommended facilities for special needs school, lack of funding is the biggest challenge that these institutions face. This is why we decided to chip in and facilitate establishment of the studio,” said Mr Gathingu.

The studio is first to be set up in any of the 50 schools for the deaf in the country.

The company has been working with the Kiambu School for over four years now.

The school head teacher Connie Mutiso lauded the company’s effort saying it will improve learning and pupils’ performance in their exams.

“Our pupils can now see what they are being taught. It used to take time drawing or collecting materials for use in classes, but with digital learning our teachers will more effectively prepare their lessons,” she said.
