Secondary schools in rural areas have been advised to invest more in indoor games so as to be able to compete with their counterparts in urban areas.

Addressing Kenya Secondary School games national qualifiers in Kisii County, the area KUPPET Executive Secretary Joseph Abincha said that the hard environment in their schools should not limit them from realizing their potential.

“What matters in any venture is self-drive, determination and self-confidence,” said the official.

He praised schools like Moteiribe, Nyakorere and Amabuko whose students displayed exemplary performance and qualified to the national level despite the fact it was their first shot in the games.

In Badminton, Moteiribe secondary school was represented by Ferdes Okwena while Itierio Girls was represented by Priscillah Omwenga.

Table tennis had more participants who were Clinton Nyakundi and Bob Obiri from Amabuko Secondary school. Kisii School was represented by Joshua Glen and Derick Sunda as Edith Oonge represented Kereri Girls School in the same.

Mr. Abincha appealed to the Ministry of Education to release enough funds on time to facilitate sports in schools so as coaches and their trainees do not strain during training.
