Non-performing students to be denied bursaries

By Amoto Dennis

Bura MP Ali Wario has said that students who perform dismally in their studies will not receive CDF bursaries.
He said they will only help bright students from poor backgrounds. He distributed Sh15 million cheques.
Out of 5,000 applicants this year, only 1,900 students met the required bar set by the CDF board to qualify for the Bura bursaries.
The legislator explained that the board took time to verify the details by the applicants.
Wario said some beneficiaries do not attend classes, hence do not deserve the cash.
“Such joy riders shouldn’t be allowed to benefit from Bura CDF”, said the MP.
He added the board had come up with new vetting rules geared to support performance in academics and school attendance.
According to the board, secondary school students qualified for Sh6, 000 from Sh3, 000 issued in the past years.
Those in tertiary colleges qualified for Sh18, 000 from previous the Sh10, 000.
He said he will personally monitor the performance of beneficiaries to ensure crooks are weeded out from Bura CDF kitty.
