Do not blame teachers for insecurity in schools, says Kuppet

By John Ochieng

The Government should address security lapses witnessed in various schools in the country instead of shouldering teachers with the responsibility.
Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Migori County Executive Secretary Samwel Jasolo said teachers should not be blamed since their role is teaching and management of schools.
Jasolo said principals are not trained to offer security and it is upon security agents to take the responsibility.
He noted that principals are victimized because of matters beyond them and urged the Ministry of Education to come up with the appropriate policies to curb students’ unrests.
Jasolo also urged Teachers Service Commission to hire more teachers in schools to maintain higher education standards and reduce parents’ burden of paying salaries for Board of Management employed teachers.
