Over 90 per cent and 60 per cent of children eligible for secondary and primary education, respectively, are out of school in Garissa County, a task force report has showed.
This was recently revealed at a two day education conference in Garissa town which was attended by participants from all the seven sub counties of Ijara , Mbalambala , Dadaab ,Modagashe , Fafi ,Garissa and Hulugho.
During the conference Governor Ali Korane urged residents to think outside the box and come up with workable solutions.
“The lack of schooling in Garissa County is destroying the opportunities and possibly the future of thousands of children,” said Korane.
The delegates were discussing the task report and will make recommendations on improving education standards in the county.
Lamenting that such a big number of children being out of school was a disaster, the governor said solutions can only come from participants.
