New curriculum to abolish County, National schools grading

By Amoto Dennis

The new curriculum system being implemented may not have room for County and National schools.
A senior official at Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) Johnston Oduor Ochuoma said the new curriculum may not have space for the above named school categories.
The acting director, however, clarified there was no definite age of joining boarding schools, adding that in the new curriculum, the children may only join high school after junior secondary school.
Blaming lack of life skill training in our school system woes, Oduor said the new curriculum aims to avoid toddlers being in boarding schools.
The acting director explained that accidents in boarding schools are aggravated by underage children not being able to think fast enough and know what appropriate steps to take in order to be safe.
He said in 2:6:3:3 unlike outgoing 8:4:4 which is examination oriented, the new system is competence based and examinations will occupy a limited 30 per cent space as from junior secondary .
