Teachers protest attacks by parents

Teachers in Bomet County want their security beefed up.
The county KNUT Executive Secretary Malel Langat said incidents where teachers are being attacked by parents are on rise.
“We want our security assured by our security agencies. We can’t have teachers attacked for carrying out their duties,” Malel said.
He said some parents had resorted to taking advantage on the ban on corporal punishment in school as an excuse to turn against innocent teachers.
Malel spoke after a teacher at Kagawet Primary School in Chepalungu was attacked for disciplining a pupil.
The hostile parent stormed the school and roughed up teachers before smashing window panes in the school headmistress office.
Langat urged Bomet County Commissioner Geoffrey Omondi to use local administration officers to warn parents against interfering with the work of teachers.
