Teachers fault TSC over delocalisation

By Kese Werugha

Two teachers’ organizations, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and Kenya Union of Pre-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kilifi County branches have faulted the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) over the delocalisation of teachers in the country.
Knut and Kuppet Branch Secretaries Jonathan Kenga (pictured) and Charles Katungo respectively stressed that the teachers are already locals by virtue of being Kenyan citizens and should be left to work where they are.
They said that transferring teachers from their home counties to other counties across the country was inhumane and strongly opposed the move by the TSC.
Kenga said: “The two teachers trade unions are opposed to the decision by the Government to have teachers transferred from their home areas to work in schools located in other counties”.
Katungo said the transfers will demoralise the teachers because they will be leaving behind their wives or husbands and families leading to poor performance.
The two trade unions officials told the Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed and the TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia to go slow on education reforms initiated by the former CS Dr Fred Matiang’i to avoid disrupting learning.

  1. The claims by our unions that teacher delacalization is weakening family ties is baseless since many workers are away yet they also have families.Unions should allow TSC to do it’s work.
