Lamu untrained teachers demand their salaries

By Amoto Dennis

Eight untrained teachers in Boni, Lamu County are accusing the national government of failing to pay them their dues.
The tutors claim that since they were deployed to Milimani, Mangai, Mararani, Basuba and Kiangwe primary schools in January, no salary had been paid to them.
In January this year, then Lamu County Commissioner, Gilbert Kitiyo directed all the schools which were closed following terror attacks in the area be re-opened.
However, following the directive, Milimani, Mangai and Mararani Primary schools reopened with only ECDE and Grade One to Three classes operating notwithstanding the low enrolment.
The eight Form Four leavers were hired to assist in teaching the pupils after several trained non-local teachers left the area.
Basuba MCA, Deko Barisa urged the government to fulfill its promises and pay the teachers.
