Uasin Gishu County allocates bursary for technical institutes

Uasin Gishu County Government will allocate 50 per cent of the bursary budget to pay schools for students pursuing certificate and diploma courses in vocational training institutes.
Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno said this is meant to create a pool of skilled manpower that can participate in the economic growth of the region as well as the country.
“The change of the bursary allocation will see 50 students from every ward benefit from the financial assistance and intend to train about 1,500 within one year,” he said.
He said the change in approach follows the realisation that the county lacks a skilled labour force that can participate in key projects such as building and construction.
With the advent of devolution, new market centres have sprung up and need a lot of human resource capital such as plumbers.
Students pursuing their studies in Eldoret National Polytechnic and the Rift Valley Technical Training Institute will benefit from this gesture.
This will add to the 1800 artisans and technicians the county government has helped train for the last four years.
