Newly chartered Garissa University has 974 students out of which 413 are government sponsored.
President Uhuru Kenyatta recently granted a charter to the university. The move made the institution, which was previously a constituent college of Moi University, a fully fledged university. It becomes the 31st chartered public university.
The President, at the same time, appointed Prof. Hellen Sambili as the chancellor of the university.
