Teachers’ unions and key education stakeholders will take centre stage during Kenya’s national World Teachers’ Day celebrations on Monday, October 5, in a programme that brings together the country’s main voices in the education sector.

The celebrations will provide a platform for representatives of teachers’ unions and school heads’ associations to address teachers before senior government officials take over the programme.

Representatives of the Kenya Primary School Heads Association (KEPSHA), Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) and Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers (KUSNET) are scheduled to deliver remarks.

They will be followed by Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Secretary General Akelo Misori and Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Collins Oyuu, giving the unions an opportunity to address the national gathering on a day dedicated to the teaching profession.

The programme will then shift to education policy and administration, with remarks from a UNESCO regional representative, Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Acting Commission Secretary and Chief Executive Officer Dr Evaleen Mitei and TSC Chairman Dr Jamleck Muturi John.
