Police in Marani, Kisii County, are holding a 23-year-old man on allegations of defiling a primary school pupil.
According to police and family sources, the incident occurred on Friday afternoon after the pupil left school during lunch break. The girl usually takes her meals at a local hotel under an arrangement made by her father, Erick Onsongo, because their home is far from the school.
It is alleged the suspect lured the minor and later held her in a room for several hours. Teachers raised concern after the pupil failed to return for afternoon lessons and alerted the parent and Nyumba Kumi officials.
A search was conducted, leading to the discovery of the pupil and the arrest of the suspect, who was taken to Marani Police Station.
The father has called for justice, citing violation of the Children Act, 2022.
Police said investigations are ongoing and the suspect remains in custody pending arraignment.
The incident coincides with another case reported at Rigena Comprehensive School in Tabaka Ward, South Mugirango Constituency, where the headteacher was arrested over allegations of impregnating four learners.
