Address reproductive health issues, youth groups urged

Kitui County youth groups have been urged to implement adolescence reproductive health initiatives so as to stem early pregnancies.
The call was made the National Youth Council (NYC) Kitui County Chairman Aggrey Nzomo Kavalu who added that
adolescent mothers still in school should be given priorities in issuance of bursaries.
“Such groups should be involved in reproductive health initiatives including family planning activities even as readmission to schools is considered,” he said.
“There is need to shift focus and efforts to helping the youthful and adolescent mothers attending school to get access to appropriate health care. It is all important to give them access to quality health care and education,” Kavalu added.
Kavalu was speaking during an adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health consultative meeting facilitated by Jhpiego in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USaid) and Aphia Plus at the Kitui Parkside Villa Hotel in Kitui Town . The meeting sought to have the youths generate a working framework for effective implementation of the adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health agenda in Kitui County.
The occasion was also graced by some senior officials from the Kitui County Ministry of Education, Youth and ICT and the Ministry of Health and Sanitation Ministries. Kavalu said that the young mothers attending day secondary schools and vocational training centres in the rural parts of Kitui County need assistance.
