The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has completed drilling a borehole at Mumbuni Primary School in Machakos following an appeal by area MP Caleb Mule to President William Ruto.
Mule had faced criticism from some local politicians after requesting the borehole and a perimeter fence for the school, with former Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka arguing that he should have sought larger development projects during the President’s visit.
Speaking during a women empowerment forum at the Mua Ward office grounds on Thursday, Mule said the borehole had now been completed and the perimeter fence constructed.
He also said he had secured Sh10 million for the construction of additional classrooms at the school.
Mule defends development record
Mule defended his requests to the President, saying Machakos Town Constituency had benefited from several other development projects.
“My critics only picked on the fence, but I also asked for the fast-tracking of Miwongoni Dam and people are being compensated. The Makaveti–Iini Road, which the President launched that day, is being tarmacked,” Mule said.
He said the projects demonstrated that his engagement with the national government extended beyond the borehole and school fence.
Mule also compared his development record with that of his predecessor, saying there was nothing the former legislator had accomplished during his 15-year tenure that he had not been able to undertake.
Available public records show Mumbuni Primary School has previously benefited from constituency-funded infrastructure works, while other schools in the wider Mumbuni area have also received water and education infrastructure investments.
Former State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita, who attended the function, said he would prioritise development and staffing of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres if elected Machakos Governor in the 2027 General Election. Waita has publicly been campaigning for the Machakos gubernatorial seat.
“From September 2027, no parent will pay ECDE teachers. I will also improve pay for Community Health Promoters,” Waita said.

He also pledged to improve household access to water from Miwongoni and Maruba dams if elected.
