- Rutto, who taught Kiswahili and History at Lalagin Secondary School in Kericho County, had earlier been reported missing before she was found dead.
- Her family has appealed to teachers, friends and well-wishers to support the funeral arrangements and give her a dignified send-off.
Funeral arrangements have been announced for teacher Martina Chepkemoi Rutto, whose death has left her family, colleagues and the wider teaching fraternity mourning.
The family has scheduled a fundraising event for Wednesday, September 9, 2026, ahead of her burial on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the family home in Abossi, Narok County.
Martina, a teacher at Lalagin Secondary School in Bureti Sub-County, Kericho County, was reported missing on August 26 before she was later found dead. Published reports identify her as a Kiswahili and History teacher.
Her body was reportedly recovered from Kimugu River and later identified by her family at Kericho District Hospital mortuary. Police opened investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death.
The family has appealed to teachers, friends, colleagues and members of the public to stand with them during the difficult period by attending the fundraising and supporting the funeral arrangements.
Those wishing to visit the family home to condole with relatives have been directed to travel through the Sotik–Ndanai route before proceeding to Abossi Centre, where they can seek further directions to the homestead.
The fundraising will provide an opportunity for well-wishers and members of the teaching fraternity to contribute towards meeting expenses associated with the burial.
Family members have expressed appreciation to everyone who has stood with them since Martina’s death and called for continued prayers and support as they prepare to lay their loved one to rest.
Burial set for September 12
The burial service will take place on Saturday, September 12, at the family home in Abossi.
Abossi is in Ololmasani Ward, Trans Mara East Sub-County, Narok County, according to official government records.
The family has urged mourners and well-wishers to join them in giving Martina a dignified send-off and comforting those left behind.

Her death has generated grief among colleagues, relatives and members of the education community, with calls continuing for investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding her killing.
