Maasai Mara University has raised an alert over a fraudulent degree certificate circulating online and warned members of the public against falling victim to individuals dealing in fake academic documents.
In a public notice issued by the university, the institution said the certificate purporting to have been issued by Maasai Mara University is forged and did not originate from the institution.
The fake document bears the title “Premium Certificate” and purports to award a Bachelor of Environmental Studies (Biology and Health) with First Class Honours.
However, the university clarified that it does not issue certificates described as “Premium Certificates.”
The institution urged members of the public not to engage with individuals offering to sell or “verify” such certificates, warning that forging academic papers is a serious criminal offence.
“Always verify academic qualifications directly through the University Registrar’s office,” the university advised in its alert.

The warning comes amid continued concerns over the use of forged academic and professional certificates in Kenya. The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has previously reported cases in which individuals used fake academic papers to secure employment or other benefits in public institutions.
Maasai Mara University has therefore called on anyone seeking to authenticate academic qualifications to use official university channels rather than relying on individuals or unofficial online platforms.
The university’s warning is intended to protect members of the public from fraudsters who may use fake certificates to solicit money, secure employment or misrepresent academic qualifications.
Members of the public who encounter suspicious certificates are encouraged to seek verification directly from the relevant institution.
