The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has rejected remarks by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula suggesting that the President issues employment letters to Members of Parliament for the recruitment of teachers.
TSC said the claim is “not true and misleading,” stressing that the recruitment and employment of registered teachers, including the issuance of employment letters, is its constitutional mandate.
The commission cited Article 237(2)(b) of the Constitution, which mandates TSC to recruit and employ registered teachers.
TSC further noted that Regulations 55 and 56 of the TSC Code of Regulations for Teachers, 2015, provide for the recruitment of teachers and issuance of offers of employment by the Commission.
“Accordingly, all TSC employment letters are issued by the Teachers Service Commission in accordance with the law and applicable recruitment guidelines,” the Commission stated.
The commission emphasised that neither President William Ruto nor Members of Parliament have the mandate to issue TSC employment letters.
TSC said it remains committed to ensuring transparency, fairness and integrity in the recruitment and employment of teachers.
The clarification comes amid ongoing public debate over claims of political involvement in teacher recruitment and allegations that employment opportunities are being distributed through political offices.
