MPs to vet Sossion, Lentoijoni for TSC slots after high court lifts suspension

  • The National Assembly Education Committee has scheduled the vetting of TSC nominees Wilson Sossion and Antonina Lentoijoni for Thursday, August 20, 2026.
  • The High Court has lifted conservatory orders that had suspended the vetting process following a constitutional petition filed by Kelvin Wafula.
  • President William Ruto had nominated both Sossion and Lentoijoni to the Teachers Service Commission, with MPs set to vet their suitability for the positions.

The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Education is set to vet Wilson Sossion and Antonina Lentoijoni for appointment as members of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

The vetting comes after the High Court lifted conservatory orders that had temporarily stopped the process following a constitutional petition challenging the nominees’ appointments.

According to a notice published by the National Assembly on Wednesday, August 19, the vetting of the former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary-General Wilson Sossion will begin at 10:00 a.m., while that of Antonina Lentoijoni will follow at 10:30 a.m.

The Assembly said it had invited members of the public to submit memoranda on the suitability or otherwise of the two nominees for appointment to the TSC.

The submissions were required to be made through written statements on oath (affidavits), allowing members of the public to raise any issues they may have regarding the nominees’ suitability for the positions.

Why Sossion and Lentoijoni could be the befitting choice for coveted TSC commissioner posts

The vetting had initially been suspended after the High Court, on July 30, 2026, issued conservatory orders stopping the National Assembly from proceeding with the vetting and approval of Sossion and Lentoijoni.

The orders followed an urgent application filed by petitioner Kelvin Wafula against the State Law Office and the Teachers Service Commission.

The conservatory orders were set to remain in force for 21 days and were accompanied by a penal notice warning against contempt of court for non-compliance.

With the orders now lifted, the National Assembly has proceeded with the vetting process as scheduled.

Sossion was nominated by President William Ruto on July 21, 2026, to serve as a member of the TSC. His nomination has drawn attention due to his long experience in education leadership and advocacy for teachers’ welfare.

Lentoijoni was also nominated by the President to serve as a member of the TSC. MPs are expected to examine their qualifications, experience, integrity and suitability to serve on the commission.

The National Assembly will consider the committee’s report and decide whether to approve or reject the nominees.
