  • Bomet County has warned the public against a scam in which an individual has posed as the county’s ECDE Director to solicit money from job seekers.
  • Authorities have identified the suspect’s phone number and flagged discrepancies between his Truecaller identity and M-Pesa registration name.
  • The county has urged residents to verify all ECDE job openings solely through official County Government and CPSB channels.

The County Government of Bomet has warned members of the public against a recruitment scam in which an impersonator is posing as the county’s Director of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) to extort money from job seekers.

In a public notice, the county’s Department of Education and Vocational Training said it had received multiple reports of an individual falsely claiming authority over ECDE teacher recruitment and demanding payment from unsuspecting applicants in exchange for job placements.

The suspect, who identifies himself only as “Koech,” is said to be operating from telephone number 0728071311. The department noted that the number appears under the name “CDE” on the caller-identification app Truecaller, while records show it is registered under the name Nathan Rop on M-Pesa.

County officials were emphatic that the individual has no authorisation whatsoever to recruit ECDE teachers on behalf of the Bomet County Government.

“All genuine ECDE vacancies and recruitment processes are communicated through official County Government channels by the County Public Service Board (CPSB),” the department said, urging job seekers to treat any solicitation for money as a red flag.

Anyone approached by individuals demanding payment in exchange for an ECDE teaching position has been advised to report the matter immediately to the relevant authorities for investigation and possible prosecution.

The department reiterated that all recruitment into the county public service must follow official, established procedures, cautioning residents against falling prey to fraudsters exploiting the high demand for teaching jobs.

The warning comes at a time of heightened public interest in ECDE employment opportunities within Bomet, with the county government having identified improved staffing at ECDE centres as one of its key education priorities.

Members of the public have been advised to verify any ECDE job advertisement through official County Government of Bomet and CPSB communication channels before submitting applications or making any payments
