Leaders call for development-focused leadership, peace to end inherited poverty

  • Teresia Mbaika says development-focused leadership should ensure children inherit better opportunities than previous generations.
  • Mwengi Mutuse urges young people to reject politicians seeking to use them to fuel divisions.
  • The leaders also called for peace, respect for property and unity as political activities intensify.

Leaders have called on the public to embrace change, adding that people often resist change until they stabilise but later appreciate the decision.

Speaking at Mulili Primary School grounds in Makindu Sub-County, Makueni County, State Department for Aviation and Aerospace Development Principal Secretary Teresia Mbaika noted that any good leadership should focus on development and that the challenges they went through during their school days should not be faced by their children.

“We should always focus on development-oriented leaders. You cannot tell me that my children will face the exact challenges I faced when I was in school. This is a new era and we must embrace change for the betterment of our children,” Mbaika said.

She noted that with change, locals will do away with inherited poverty in the region, thus uplifting their lives.

Mbaika calls for peace

Following what happened this week in Western Kenya, she called for peace even as the country braces itself for the next General Election, calling for respect for other people’s property.

“If you burn or damage property, remember that’s your neighbour’s property and you are taking them back to start again, which is not good. Let us be our brother’s keeper, bearing in mind our children are looking upon us to be their role models,” Mbaika said.

Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse called upon residents to remember that politics should not bring division among them, urging youths to desist from being used by politicians.
