Bukokholo Girls High School have made history by storming into the semi-finals of the 23rd East Africa Schools Sports Associations (FEASSA) Games netball competition in Morogoro, Tanzania.
The Kenyan representatives finished second in Group A after recording two wins and one defeat, becoming the first Kenyan girls’ team in as many years to reach the last four of the regional school games.
Bukokholo began their campaign on August 14 against Uganda’s St. Mary’s Kitende but suffered a heavy 77–26 defeat.
Despite the setback, the Kenyan girls showed remarkable resilience, bouncing back to defeat Light College Katikamu of Uganda 49–41 on August 17.
They completed their group campaign in impressive fashion on August 18, beating Tanzania’s Mkolani Secondary School 51–39 to secure their semi-final place.
Bukokholo bounce back
Bukokholo scored 126 points and conceded 157 in their three matches, finishing with a point difference of -31.
Their ability to recover from the opening defeat has been one of the major highlights of Kenya’s netball campaign.
The achievement is particularly significant given Uganda’s dominance of the discipline.
Three of the four semi-finalists are Ugandan schools, underlining the challenge facing the Kenyan representatives.
St. Mary’s Kitende will face fellow Ugandan side St. Noa Girls S.S. Zana in the first semi-final, while Bukokholo will meet Hamdan Islamic School of Uganda in the other clash.
Meanwhile, national champions Andersen Mixed Senior School bowed out after recording two wins and two defeats.
Andersen beat Vwawa 41–27 and Mbeya 55–32 but lost to St. Noa Girls 51–35 and Hamdan Islamic School 55–37.
Andersen scored 168 points and conceded 165, finishing with a positive point difference of three.
