Wrangles over land derails growth of Youth polys

By Obadiah Oroko

Land ownership tussle involving administrations of village youth polytechnics and private developers continues derailing implementation of public projects funded by the County Government of Kisii in such institutions.
Kisii County Government Director in charge of Early Years Education and Vocational Training Centres (EYE&VTCs) Peter Tung’ai has regretted that projects funded by the County Government for the benefit of learners in the vocational training centres have stalled due to wrangles over land ownership.
Addressing a public baraza at Isamwera Youth Polytechnic, Bassi Chache Ward in Bobasi Sub-County,Tung’ai warned private developers and communities around vocational training centres against encroaching or grabbing of vocational training centres’ land.
He said such acts threatened funding and implementation of public projects by the County Government in such institutions.
“Most public projects being implemented by the County Government of Kisii in vocational training centres have stalled due to disputes over land ownership involving either private developers or other institutions and administrations of vocational training centres,” stated Tung’ai
Tung’ai challenged administrations of vocational training centres to ensure public land under ownership of their institutions are secured by having such property registered and given title deeds as legally registered owners.
