- Teachers from six West Pokot sub-counties have organised football teams to promote unity during the school holidays.
- Mwalimu FC will represent the county at the Rift Valley Regional Teachers’ Tournament in Baringo this August.
- KUPPET has praised the initiative for promoting teamwork, sportsmanship and healthy living among teachers.
With the ending of the Primary, Junior and Senior School games at the regional level in Rift Valley, attention has now turned to the teachers who have organised themselves by forming teams to be engaged during the holidays.
Teachers from the six sub-counties in West Pokot County converged at Nasokol Girls Secondary School for two days, playing in thrilling and entertaining games.
One such team was Mwalimu FC from Pokot Central Sub-county, which reached the quarter-finals.
In particular, Mwalimu FC was formed in 2023 with the aim of engaging and uniting Primary, JSS and Senior Secondary School teachers.
Currently, the teachers support themselves through monthly contributions, which have enabled them to purchase balls, uniforms and other logistics.
“The team has set aside Sundays as the day for practice since most of the players work in stations that are far apart within the sub-county. We are also requesting support from well-wishers to enable us acquire modern sports equipment that will make our practice and participation in competitions easier,” said Silas Nduruchi, the team coach.
Other team officials include Patrick Lemang’ole, the chairman, and Geoffrey Kibet, the club spokesperson.
“If well supported, I promise Mwalimu FC, as a role model to the learners, will go far,” said Geoffrey Kibet, the club spokesperson.
KUPPET branch officials from West Pokot County, led by Mr Alfred Kamuto, were at hand to support the teams.
Mr Kamuto said it was a good gesture for teachers to organise themselves into football teams for holiday tournaments.
“Teachers are role models to the learners; therefore, whatever good they are doing will be emulated by the learners,” said Mr Kamuto.
During day two of the competition, Mwalimu FC from Pokot Central Sub-county played against the West Pokot County Assembly team in a thrilling match that ended 3-3.
When the climax came before hundreds of fans, Kipkomo Sub-county played North Pokot Sub-county, with Kipkomo winning 3-1.
The two teams that played in the final each received a new football from the KUPPET office.
All the teams from the six sub-counties also received refreshments and transport back home.
Mwalimu FC and the Kipkomo team will now represent West Pokot County at the Rift Valley Regional Teachers’ Tournament to be held in Baringo County this August.
Geoffrey Kimtai of the West Pokot County Primary Schools Sports Association praised the teachers for their unity and sportsmanship during the tournament.

He also thanked the KUPPET office for its support towards the teachers’ teams.
