The Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) has explained the reasons behind the disqualification of Tenwek High School from the 2026 National Term Two Games, saying the decision followed a routine post-regional eligibility audit.
According to a statement issued by the Rift Valley Secondary Schools Sports Association (RVSSSA) Secretary General, KSSSA conducts a thorough verification of all teams that qualify for the national championships through its ICT department.
The verification process involves cross-checking the player registration documents submitted by schools against the information captured in the KSSSA registration portal to ensure that all athletes meet the competition’s eligibility requirements.
Queries raised during audit
The audit reportedly raised queries involving players from several qualifying teams. While some schools successfully responded to the concerns, Tenwek High School was unable to satisfactorily explain certain disparities identified within its squad.
“Unfortunately, Tenwek failed to explain certain disparities in their team and subsequently it was flagged down,” the statement said.
Following the disqualification, Menengai High School, the runners-up in the Rift Valley boys’ football championship, was recalled to replace Tenwek as the region’s representative at the national games in Thika.
The decision ends Tenwek’s campaign despite the Bomet County side having earned qualification by winning the Rift Valley title.

KSSSA maintains that the eligibility audit is a standard procedure applied to all qualifying teams to uphold fairness and integrity in school sports competitions.
The 2026 KSSSA National Term Two Games are scheduled to take place in Thika, bringing together regional champions from across the country to compete for national honours.
