As smartphones increasingly replace family conversations, social media shapes values and artificial intelligence transforms childhood, a new book by former Education News South Rift correspondent Amos Kerich is calling on parents to return to intentional, faith-based parenting.

Kerich’s latest publication, How to Raise God-Fearing Children in a Broken World, is scheduled for launch on August 15, 2026, in Nskuru.

The book argues that while technology and society have changed rapidly, parenting must remain grounded in strong values, faith and deliberate character formation.

A trained chaplain, pastor, communication professional and child development advocate, Kerich draws on years of ministry, counselling and media experience to address the challenges facing modern families.

He argues that children do not raise themselves and that the future of society is shaped within families long before it reaches national leadership.

Written for parents, guardians, teachers, church leaders and counsellors, the publication offers practical, biblically grounded guidance on raising spiritually anchored, emotionally resilient and morally responsible children.

Among the topics covered are restoring fatherhood, building godly character, setting healthy boundaries, navigating digital media responsibly and helping children resist negative peer influence.

Building stronger families

In the foreword, Dr. Stephen Kinuthia, founder of Smile Chaplains Network, describes the publication as a timely contribution to Christian parenting.

He says raising children today requires wisdom, courage and intentional faith, qualities the book seeks to cultivate through biblical teaching and practical guidance.

According to Kerich, the book was inspired by conversations with parents struggling to guide children growing up in a digital world very different from the one they experienced.

As a pastor and chaplain, he says he has encountered many young people grappling with loneliness, identity struggles, anxiety and unhealthy online influences while parents often feel ill-equipped to respond.

Parenting as nation-building

The author argues that parenting is one of the most important nation-building responsibilities.

He maintains that strong families build strong churches, strong churches strengthen communities and strong communities ultimately contribute to a stronger nation.

“If tomorrow’s leaders are to be people of integrity, compassion and faith, today’s children must be raised with purpose,” Kerich says.

Rather than offering quick solutions, the book encourages parents to view the home as the first classroom of character, the first church of faith and the first training ground for responsible citizenship.

At a time when concerns over youth mental health, digital addiction, family breakdown and substance abuse continue to dominate public discourse, the publication offers a message of hope rooted in intentional parenting and Christian values.
