- Football, basketball and netball quarter-final line-ups took shape at the Rift Valley Secondary Schools Games.
- St Anthony’s Boys, Laiser Hill, Itigo Girls and St Joseph Girls advanced to the knockout stage.
- Hosts Oldonyo Orok and Iraa Girls also secured quarter-final places in netball.
The battle for quarter-final places intensified on Wednesday as several teams secured qualification at the ongoing Rift Valley Secondary Schools Term Two Games in Narok County.
Former national girls’ football champions Itigo Girls from Nandi County and former Rift Valley regional champions St Joseph Girls High School progressed to the last eight after playing out a goalless draw in their final Group Stage match at Maasai Girls Grounds.
The result was enough to see both sides advance to the knockout stage.
In the boys’ football competition, traditional giants St Anthony’s Boys High School and Laiser Hill Academy also confirmed their quarter-final places.
St Anthony’s, former national and East Africa champions, faced 2024 regional runners-up Laiser Hill Academy in a top-of-the-table clash at William ole Ntimama Stadium.
The match was to determine the group winner, with Laiser Hill leading 1-0 by the time of filing this report.
West Pokot’s Ortum Boys continued their impressive run after already securing qualification.
They were leading GG Kariuki Boys of Rumuruti 2-1 in a match largely meant to determine the final group standings.
Other football results
Soy High School beat Kapchemibei 3-0, Trinity defeated Ndururumo 2-1 and Kabarnet High School recorded a resounding 7-0 victory over Nyiro.
Kapsoit Boys defeated GG Rumuruti 2-0, Nasokol Boys edged Kericho Day 1-0, while St Anthony’s had earlier beaten Kamoi Secondary School 2-0.
Laiser Hill also underlined their title credentials with a convincing 4-0 victory over Olmelil.
The basketball 3×3 championship also entered the knockout phase, with the quarter-final fixtures now confirmed.
In the girls’ category, hosts Maasai Girls will face Kapsowar, Cheptil will play Kaplong, St Joseph Girls will take on Olkokwe, while Ndururumo will meet Nakuru.
The boys’ quarter-finals will pit Menengai against Ndururumo, Lodwar against St Patrick’s, Emining against Mnagei and Laiser Hill against Meteitei.
Netball knockout stage
In netball, Kericho County champions Iraa Girls booked a quarter-final place after thrashing Moi Forces Academy of Nakuru 37-4 in Pool B.
Trans Nzoia’s Andersen High School also advanced from Pool D following a dominant 67-6 victory over Cheptal.
Pool A remains finely balanced, with Pemwai and Kaboroch level on four points apiece ahead of their final group matches.

Hosts Oldonyo Orok kept Narok County’s hopes alive after edging Aldai 28-27 in a thrilling Pool C encounter to secure a place in the quarter-finals.
