A post‑mortem examination has revealed that 20‑year‑old Ben Kamiti, a student at Upperhill College of Professional Studies, died from blunt force trauma to the head sustained during last week’s demonstrations in Naivasha.
Government pathologist Dr. Titus Ngulungu, who conducted the autopsy at the Naivasha Sub‑County Hospital mortuary, concluded that Kamiti succumbed to a blunt head injury.
The findings were witnessed by the family’s pathologist, Dr. P. M. Ndegwa, and directly contradict an earlier police report which claimed the student fell and was struck by a sharp object.

According to eyewitness accounts, riot police had been deployed to disperse the protest. During the confrontation, Kamiti was allegedly hit on the head by a tear‑gas canister, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to Naivasha Sub‑County Hospital before being transferred to a private facility for specialised treatment, but later succumbed to his injuries.
Youth leader Simon Wakaba said the family has lodged a complaint with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), demanding investigations into the circumstances of Kamiti’s death and accountability for those responsible.
