Hosts Maasai Girls Secondary School made a flying start to the Rift Valley Secondary Schools Sports Association (RVSSSA) Term Two Games after taking full advantage of home support to register impressive victories on the opening day of competition in Narok County.
Inspired by enthusiastic cheers from students, teachers and supporters, the hosts excelled in the girls’ 3×3 basketball competition, emerging among the early pace-setters.
Hosts impress in basketball
Cheered on by Principal Cecilia Teeka, Maasai Girls defeated Turkana 15-4 before edging tournament favourites Laiser Hill 11-8 in Pool A.
The victories placed the hosts in a strong position as the competition gathered momentum.
The opening day also produced entertaining netball matches across the region.
Koporoch defeated Lolokwe 20-15 before overcoming Edmund Rice 26-18.
Pemwai lost 23-19 to Edmund Rice, while Iraa comfortably beat Kapkitony 25-3.
Aldai recorded the day’s biggest victory, thrashing Loima 50-7.
Oldonyo Orok defeated Thiru 24-16 before Thiru recovered to beat Loima 27-20.
Andersen completed another dominant performance by defeating Chepsaita 44-4.
Day Two fixtures will see Iraa face Moi Forces, while Chepsaita takes on Cheptalal.
Girls’ basketball heats up
In the girls’ 3×3 basketball preliminaries, Olkokwe opened Pool A with a 10-6 victory over Laiser Hill before Maasai Girls registered victories over Turkana and Laiser Hill.
Pool B was dominated by Cheptil, who defeated Nakuru 21-5 and Kisima 17-5.
In Pool C, Joga overwhelmed Sosiot 21-0, while Kapsowar defeated Moi Girls 15-5.
Pool D saw Ndururumo comfortably beat Kaplong 12-2.
Football action
Girls’ football also produced competitive encounters.
Kapchemibei defeated Ndururumo 4-2 in Pool A, while Trinity Girls edged Soy Girls 1-0.
Reigning Rift Valley champions Nasokol began their title defence with a convincing 3-0 victory over Uhuru in Pool C.
Kericho Day also registered a 3-0 win over Nyiiro.
In Pool D, Mogotio defeated AIC Kessup 2-0.
The boys’ football competition equally produced exciting matches.
Kabarnet Boys edged Tenwek Boys 1-0 before Tenwek responded with a commanding 7-1 victory over Ngiro.
Ortum defeated Kapsoit 3-2 in Pool B, while Wareng High School beat Moi High School 2-0.
Moi High recovered to defeat Menengai 2-1.
In Pool D, Laiser Hill Academy secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Kamoi Boys.

The championships continue with more football, basketball and netball fixtures as schools battle for places at the national games.
