Political leaders have condemned the rising cases of killing of school-going children in Shinyalu Constituency, Kakamega County.
Led by the area Member of Parliament, MP Fred Ikana, the leaders issued a 24-hour ultimatum to police in the area to arrest perpetrators of the murders and defilements.
They said the situation was rising by the day and had caused panic among parents in the Constituency who are now forced to escort their children to and from school while armed with crude weapons.
“We have recently been witnessing rampant cases of defilement and murder of our young and school-going daughters,” said area MP Ikana.
He added, “The latest incidents include defilement and murder of a 7-year-old girl at Irobo area and a 5-year at Shabwali area. This trend must come to an end.”
The sentiments were echoed by Personal aide to President William Ruto, Farouk Kibet, Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka and Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula.
“Where do men gather the courage to defile and kill little girls when we have so many mature and single women out here?” posed Kibet.
Lusaka and Savula said the police should move swiftly and arrest the criminals.

“We are giving the police 24 hours to arrest these killers and bring them to book,” said Savula.
The leaders were speaking during the official launch of an ultra-modern 8-door multi-storey learning block at Shanjero Primary School.
At the same time, Ikana said they had secured Ksh 25 Million for schools across Shinyalu, the funds he noted had been sourced through partnership between him and President Ruto.
Ikana added that the grants had been disbursed to learning institutions in all corners of the Constituency through his efforts and on account of fulfilled promises made by the President through his request earlier in the year.
The law maker described the funding as a major milestone in his commitment to improving learning environments and expanding access to quality education.
“This marks the beginning of a broader programme, with many more schools earmarked to benefit in the next phase,” he added.
The legislator has already put up over 15 similar multi-storey learning in schools across Shinyalu, besides other renovations and purchase of buses to a number of other learning institutions.
