- Kapenguria Constituency has launched a KSh67 million NG-CDF bursary programme to support thousands of needy learners.
- Leaders described education as the most powerful investment in transforming lives and communities.
- The bursary fund will benefit students in secondary schools, TVET institutions, colleges and universities.
The grounds of Karas Primary School became a beacon of hope as leaders, education stakeholders, parents, teachers and learners gathered for the official launch of the Kapenguria Constituency National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) bursary programme.
The commissioning of the KSh67 million bursary fund marks one of the largest education investments in the constituency, reaffirming a shared commitment to ensuring that no deserving learner is denied education because of financial hardship.
The programme, spearheaded by Kapenguria Member of Parliament Hon. Samuel Moroto, will support thousands of needy students enrolled in secondary schools, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, colleges and universities.
Education as an investment in the future
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Samuel Moroto reaffirmed his commitment to making education the foundation of Kapenguria Constituency’s socio-economic transformation.
He described the bursary allocation as an investment in human capital rather than merely financial assistance.
According to the MP, today’s beneficiaries are tomorrow’s teachers, doctors, engineers, nurses, entrepreneurs, researchers, agricultural experts, security officers and national leaders.
He challenged learners to remain disciplined, work hard and maximise the opportunity, emphasising that education remains the surest path to breaking the cycle of poverty and creating lasting prosperity.
Among the distinguished guests was Prof. John Lonyangapuo, an education scholar and aspirant for the West Pokot gubernatorial seat.
He said education remains the strongest foundation upon which any progressive society is built, noting that every learner retained in school contributes to national development through innovation, productivity and responsible citizenship.
Prof. Lonyangapuo encouraged learners to embrace research, creativity, integrity, critical thinking and lifelong learning, adding that financial hardship should never extinguish the dreams of determined young people when leaders and communities unite to invest in education.
West Pokot Woman Representative Hon. Rael Kasiwai described the bursary programme as a lifeline for vulnerable families across the constituency.
She said every learner retained in school through financial support represents another victory against poverty, illiteracy, early marriages, unemployment and social exclusion.
She urged beneficiaries to remain focused on their studies, respect their teachers and parents, and pursue academic excellence.
West Pokot Senator Hon. Julius Murgor said the future of the county and the nation is being shaped in today’s classrooms.
He observed that education equips young people with knowledge, practical skills, leadership qualities and values that prepare them for meaningful careers and responsible citizenship.

Sigor MP Hon. Peter Lochakapong also challenged learners to regard education as the greatest inheritance parents and society can offer.
He urged parents and guardians to work closely with teachers and schools to support children’s academic progress while commending Hon. Moroto for prioritising education through the NG-CDF bursary programme.
A boost for CBE and human capital
The commissioning ceremony highlighted the critical role bursaries continue to play in promoting equitable access to education.
Despite increased government investment in school infrastructure, capitation and learning resources, many households continue to struggle financially, threatening children’s education.
Education experts have consistently observed that every learner retained in school contributes to stronger families, healthier communities and a more productive economy.
Quality education improves literacy, promotes innovation, strengthens social cohesion and equips learners with competencies required to thrive in a rapidly changing global economy.
The bursary programme also complements Kenya’s implementation of Competency-Based Education (CBE) by enabling learners to remain in school and fully develop competencies in creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking and problem-solving.
Parents attending the launch welcomed the bursary allocation as timely relief during a period of economic hardship.
Teachers equally praised the initiative, noting that learners whose fees are consistently paid attend school more regularly, concentrate better in class and are less likely to drop out.
Building a brighter future
As beneficiaries begin receiving the bursary awards, expectations remain high that the programme will nurture a generation of educated, skilled and responsible citizens capable of transforming Kapenguria Constituency, West Pokot County and Kenya.
The commissioning ceremony served as a reminder that the greatest wealth of any nation lies not in its natural resources but in the quality of education it provides to its people.
The KSh67 million NG-CDF bursary programme therefore represents far more than financial support.
