Hundreds of residents from across Kisii County have joined the family of Ibeno Ward MCA Hon. Stephen Arika in mourning the death of his wife, Joyline Nyamoita Arika.

Emotions ran high during a preliminary family gathering at the Arika homestead in Ibeno Ward as relatives, friends and neighbours came together following the tragic news.

The gathering was marked by prayers, hymns and words of comfort as the family began coming to terms with the loss.

Tributes to a devoted community member

Mourners described the late Joyline as a humble, God-fearing and community-minded woman.

Many recalled her support for church activities, her involvement in women and youth groups, and her quiet assistance to vulnerable families in Ibeno Ward and neighbouring communities.

Kisii County Governor Simba Arati remembered her as a caring mother who had championed the establishment of a model Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) classroom at Riangabi Primary School, located near the family’s home.

“When I visited the school to launch the classrooms, she was at the forefront, leading teachers, parents and children in receiving us. Now she has gone to glory, and all we can do is pray that God gives the family strength during this difficult time,” he said.

Clr. Omare Miencha also paid tribute, describing Joyline as a woman who stood firmly with the community during both joyful and difficult moments.

“We have lost a mother who stood with the community in both good and bad times. Her work with women, children and schools will be remembered. May God give the family strength,” he said.

Support for the bereaved family

Family members described Joyline as a pillar of strength to her husband and children.

Leaders who attended the gathering, including fellow Members of County Assembly, Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) officials and local administrators, urged Hon. Arika to remain strong and draw comfort from God and the support of the community.

“The death of a spouse leaves a painful void, but we want to assure you that Ibeno Ward and the entire Kisii County stand with you in prayer,” one of the leaders said.

Residents who thronged the family home praised the unity and hospitality shown by the bereaved family as they received mourners.
