Police in Homa Bay have arrested 40 juveniles, among them a Grade Nine pupil, over suspected links to the notorious Rock Boys gang, which has been blamed for a rise in crime and insecurity in the Shauri Yako slum of Homa Bay Town over the past six months.
According to the reports, the suspects were rounded up during a three-day targeted operation conducted by officers from Homa Bay Police Station.
Araujo Location Chief Bob Lang’o said members of the gang on Thursday attacked and seriously injured a resident who tried to stop them from robbing a woman in the Shauri Yako estate.
Lang’o said the victim was rushed to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital in critical condition before being transferred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for specialised treatment.

Following the attack, members of the public launched a manhunt for the suspects before police officers intervened and took over the operation.
Homa Bay County Police Commander Lawrence Koilem confirmed that 40 suspects have been arrested from their hideouts since the operation began on Thursday.
Koilem said investigations established that the suspects are aged between 15 and 19 years, with some already facing other criminal cases in court.
He added that the suspects expected to be arraigned on Monday and warned that the operation would continue as police intensify efforts to flush out criminals operating in Shauri Yako Estate.
