Senior schools from across Bungoma County have begun their quest for football glory as the County Soccer Preliminaries kicked off on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at various venues across the county.
The highly anticipated tournament features both boys’ and girls’ teams competing in pool matches at Sudi Stadium, Kanduyi Stadium, Bukembe Secondary School and Bungoma High School.
In the boys’ category, schools have been drawn into four pools, with traditional football powerhouses and emerging teams expected to battle for qualification to the next stage.
Pool A comprises Teremi, Bokoli, Makuselwa and Kibabii.
Pool B features Bukembe, Kimobo, Cheptais and Milo.
Pool C brings together Kabula, Maliki, Kimaeti and Sikulu.
Pool D consists of Terem, Chesamisi, St Peter Narati and Namwela.
Girls’ Teams Eye Progression
In the girls’ competition, Brenda, St Augustine, Mungore and Ndakaru have been drawn in Pool A.
Pool B includes Mbakalo, Nalondo, Chemweisus and B. Atundo.
Kikai, Terem, Siboti and Matulo make up Pool C, while Mabuusi, Wabukhonyi, Kim and St Jan are in Pool D.
The opening matches kicked off at 11.00 a.m. in the girls’ category, with Brenda facing Mungore, Mbakalo taking on Chemweisus, Kikai meeting Siboti and Mabuusi playing Kim.
The boys’ fixtures followed at 12.40 p.m., headlined by encounters between Teremi and Makuselwa, Bukembe and Cheptais, Kabula and Kimaeti, as well as Terem against St Peter Narati.
Further matches are scheduled throughout the afternoon as teams seek crucial points in the group stages.
Education and sports stakeholders have expressed optimism that the championship will provide a platform for learners to showcase their football talent while promoting discipline, teamwork and healthy competition.
The preliminaries are expected to attract large crowds of students, teachers and sports enthusiasts, with the best-performing teams advancing to the subsequent stages of the county games.
