The Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) mourns the passing of Habat Sheikh Abdi, the institute’s Chairman and a distinguished leader in the field of education.
Abdi was widely recognized for his visionary leadership, unwavering dedication to inclusive and quality education, and his commitment to public service.
Over four decades, his contributions significantly shaped Kenya’s education sector, leaving a lasting impact on countless students, educators, and institutions.
In tribute, the KISE family extended heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
“As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate a life of resilience, integrity, and selfless service. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide future generations,” the institute stated.

An accomplished educational administrator, Abdi was honored with the Order of Grand Warrior (OGW) for his distinguished service.
He will also be remembered for his decades-long contribution to advancing education in Northern Kenya, where he championed access to quality learning opportunities and had interest in politics.
The late Abdi’s dedication, wisdom, and passion for education leave a legacy that will continue to shape Kenya’s education sector for years to come.
