A sombre mood has engulfed Isena Village in Nyacheki Sub-location, Nyamache Sub-county, Kisii County after the body of a 22-year-old youth was found dead in a roadside ditch in Nyacheki Town.
According to clan elder Joel Masta, the deceased, identified as a graduate of a local youth polytechnic, was last seen in the company of barmaids at a restaurant in the area. Reports indicate that he remained there until late at night before leaving, only to be found dead the following morning.
Police officers from Nyangusu Police Station identified the deceased as Wesley Oganda, 22, from Isena Village. His body was moved to Keroka Hospital Mortuary pending investigations.

Police said the body had no visible physical injuries and appealed to members of the public with information that could help establish the cause of death to come forward and assist investigators.
The incident has sparked concern over the effects of excessive alcohol consumption among young people in the area. Heavy drinking has often been associated with impaired judgment, risky behaviour, and accidents, leaving many families mourning avoidable deaths. It has also strained family relationships and placed pressure on health facilities handling alcohol-related emergencies.
Residents said the tragedy underscores the need for increased community sensitisation on responsible drinking, as well as stronger collaboration between youth, elders, and local authorities to prevent similar incidents.
