Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) is in the final stages of establishing its School of Law following a key regulatory audit of its Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme by the Council of Legal Education (CLE) at its KeMU Towers, Nairobi campus.
The assessment marks a crucial milestone in the university’s long-term plan to expand its legal education portfolio and comes as CLE continues nationwide inspections of institutions seeking renewal or approval to offer law programmes.
The audit focused on KeMU’s preparedness to deliver the LL.B programme in line with Kenya’s legal education standards, including curriculum structure, staffing capacity, library resources, and training facilities.
Such evaluations are part of CLE’s statutory mandate to ensure quality and compliance in all law schools across the country.

The development places KeMU among a growing number of universities undergoing scrutiny as Kenya’s legal education sector continues to expand. In recent weeks, similar audits have been conducted at institutions such as Rongo University and others seeking to strengthen or renew their law programme licenses.
CLE has in recent months intensified inspections across universities offering law degrees, a process that has seen institutions like Africa Nazarene University and others reviewed as part of routine compliance checks aimed at maintaining academic and professional standards in legal training.
Once approved, KeMU will join a competitive but expanding list of universities offering the Bachelor of Laws programme in Kenya, potentially increasing access to legal education and contributing to a larger pool of trained lawyers in the country.
If successful, the move is expected to boost access to legal studies, particularly for students in regions served by KeMU, while also strengthening the institution’s position in Kenya’s higher education landscape.
The Council of Legal Education is expected to issue its final determination after completing its full assessment and review process.
