University of Embu partners with Africa for SDGs to enhance youth empowerment

The University of Embu has partnered with Africa for SDGs to enhance youth participation in sustainable development, addressing low involvement that has slowed innovation and research across the continent.

Low involvement of young people in Africa in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs) has slowed the research drive, capacity building, and innovative solutions for a sustainable future across the continent.

It is in this wake that the University of Embu has recently entered into campaigns to enhance the mobilisation and empowerment of young people across Africa to actively champion the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs).

According to a report from the university, Africa for SDGs is an initiative dedicated to fostering a network of passionate and dedicated youth aimed at driving positive change both locally and globally.

Under the programme, young people will be equipped with the necessary skills, resources, and opportunities to become agents of change through increased awareness of the SDGs.

The awareness, it is hoped, will enhance the capacity of youth leaders and facilitate meaningful collaboration and partnerships for sustainable development.

During the ceremony to sign the agreement between the University of Embu Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Planning, Administration and Finance), Prof. Eucharia Kenya, and the Chief Executive Officer of Africa for SDGs, Dr Joe Bonga, the university expressed its support for the programme.

The partnership, the report explained, will see the university collaborate with Africa for SDGs in joint resource mobilisation, training, and capacity building for both faculty and students.

One of the key areas of partnership includes sponsorships for students, the SDGs Fellowship Programme, and participation in global exchange programmes aligned with Global Citizenship Education (GCED).
