The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is set to collaborate with Mount Kenya University (MKU) to foster a culture of integrity among students and increase youth involvement in the national fight against corruption.

The partnership framework was established during a high-level courtesy visit to MKU’s Main Campus in Thika Town.

The EACC delegation, led by Vice Chairperson Dr. Monica Muiru and Commissioner Col. (Rtd) Alfred Mshimba, met with MKU Chairman Prof. Simon Gicharu and Vice Chancellor Prof. Deogratius Jaganyi to discuss joint initiatives.

During the discussions, Dr. Muiru emphasized that the collaboration provides a vital platform for engaging students on the socio-economic impacts of corruption.

“Our goal is to empower the youth to recognize their role in the fight against corruption and to prepare them for leadership roles grounded in integrity,” she said. She added that the initiative will instill values of accountability and ethical leadership through structured dialogue and active student participation.

Prof. Gicharu welcomed the initiative, pledging full institutional support. Highlighting his dual role as Chairman of the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), he noted that embedding integrity and ethics into the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) at primary and secondary school levels can help cultivate ethical behavior across the wider community.

Echoing this sentiment, Vice Chancellor Prof. Deogratius Jaganyi reaffirmed MKU’s commitment to creating a value-driven environment that upholds societal ethical standards.

He revealed that MKU and EACC will jointly develop a course on integrity, aimed at the Kenyan community at large.

The partnership will officially launch with the Integrity Campus Edition forum at MKU, spearheaded by the Kenya Leadership Integrity Forum (KLIF). The initiative engages university students through interactive sessions on ethics, moral philosophy, transparent leadership, and public accountability. KLIF, under the EACC, provides a platform for dialogue on integrity in universities, focusing on youth participation in the fight against graft.

MKU becomes the latest institution to embrace the movement, following successful editions of the forum at Kirinyaga University and Pan Africa Christian University.
