Teachers in Bomet County have made an urgent appeal for financial and emotional support to raise Ksh 9 million required for the treatment of Caleb Langat, an intern teacher at Siongiroi Junior School who is battling leukemia.

Caleb, a resident of Kamaget Village in Chepalungu sub-county, has been receiving treatment at AGC Tenwek Hospital and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, however after undergoing several medical assessments; doctors have recommended specialized treatment in India, including a bone marrow transplant, as his condition requires advanced care not readily available locally.

The total cost of treatment, travel, accommodation and post-care has been estimated at Ksh 9 million, a figure that has prompted teachers, colleagues, and education stakeholders to mobilize resources urgently.

Leading the appeal, KUPPET Bomet branch Chairman Emmanuel Ngeno called on Kenyans of goodwill to step forward and support the young teacher.

“This is a promising young teacher whose future is at risk. We are appealing to all well-wishers, leaders, and institutions to come together and help us raise the required amount. Every contribution counts in saving a life,” said Ngeno.

His sentiments were echoed by JSS Secretary Frankline Rono, who emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that time is critical in ensuring Caleb receives timely treatment.

“As teaching fraternity, we have come together to support one of our own. However, the financial requirement is beyond our reach and we are appealing for urgent support from all sectors of society,” said Rono.

Branch Gender Secretary Evalyne Chepkirui Sanguya also echoed the call for solidarity and compassion, urging Kenyans to stand with the family during this difficult period.

“Caleb is part of our teaching family. We are asking everyone to support him financially and also keep him in their prayers as he fights for his life,” she said.

A major fundraising event has been scheduled for May 27, 2026, at Kamaget Secondary School, bringing together teachers, leaders and community members in a collective effort to support Caleb’s treatment journey.

The teachers continue to appeal for generosity and unity as they strive to save the life of their colleague.
