Retired not tired: West Pokot to celebrate veteran educator Ben Meriongor today

West Pokot County is today set for a colourful celebration of  Ben Kipsengo Meriongor, an alumnus of Mosoriot Teachers Training College, a retired educator whose legacy in the teaching profession continues to inspire many.

Meriongor began his teaching career at Pser Primary School, where he quickly demonstrated that teaching is more than a profession, it is a calling. His dedication and effectiveness in the classroom saw learners excel in all the subjects he handled.

His commitment and performance earned him a promotion to Deputy Headteacher at Karenger Primary School. After about two years, he rose further to become Headteacher at Kodengel Primary School, a testament to his leadership and results-driven approach.

Over the years, Meriongor served with distinction as Headteacher in several institutions, leaving a lasting impact wherever he went. These include Kaprech, Chepkotii, Natemeri, Orolwo, and Keringet Primary Schools.

Beyond the classroom, Meriongor was an exceptional team player in co-curricular activities. He served diligently as the West Pokot County Primary Schools Sports Secretary, contributing significantly to the growth of school sports in the region.

In the community, he remains a respected leader and servant. He currently serves as the Chairman (Moderator) of Tartar Catholic Church and Tartar Deanery, guiding faith-based initiatives and community development.

The staunch educator is also a qualified National Volleyball Referee and an active member of Athletics Kenya, reflecting his continued passion for sports and youth development.

As friends, family and former colleagues convene to celebrate him at his home in Keringet, Kapenguria today, Meriongor sighs a breath of relief and satisfaction of the service well done.

Teachers, education officers, stakeholders, religious leaders, political leaders, and residents of West Pokot County are all warmly invited to attend and celebrate this remarkable journey.
