The bid by Higher Education Principal Secretary Dr. Beatrice Inyangala for the 2027 Kakamega gubernatorial seat has gained momentum after she formally declared interest, backed by strong support from her home church.

Dr. Inyangala made her position clear during an Easter mass at the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) St. Barnabas Eshikhoni Church in Navakholo Constituency, Kakamega County, where the congregation openly endorsed her candidature.

The PS, who had attended the service to donate funds towards the church’s renovation, said she had reflected on calls from residents across the county urging her to vie and had resolved to heed to what she described as the will of the people and God.

“I have been urged in Kabras and here in my home turf, Butsotso, among other areas I have visited, to consider vying for the governorship position. I have weighed the options and assessed their concerns and found that the county needs a more vibrant and hands-on leader who will deliver on the people’s aspirations. I have decided to respect the will of the electorates,” she said.

Inyangala noted that the church’s endorsement carried spiritual weight, saying she could not ignore what she termed as a divine calling to leadership.

“If God is speaking through the church and its congregation to identify and mandate me to vie, then I am in no position to turn down the offer,” she added.

She described the church as central to her spiritual growth, saying its support affirmed her readiness to take up the challenge of transforming Kakamega County.

The PS was accompanied by several university vice chancellors, including Prof. Solomon Shibairo of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), Prof. Charles Mutai of Bomet University, and Prof. Daniel Mugendi Njiru of Embu University, who also chairs the Vice Chancellors’ Committee of public universities in Kenya.

Inyangala thanked the church and residents of Kabras and Navakholo for their confidence in her leadership, while also expressing gratitude to the UDA administration led by President William Ruto for appointing her as the only Principal Secretary from Kakamega County.

She called on residents to rally behind her bid and support the current administration, urging them to remain aligned with the government to attract more development.

“Let us stand tall and be counted. For us to get more goodies from the government, let us support President William Ruto’s re-election and align with my gubernatorial bid, because my win will also be a win for the President,” she said.
